About Us

Lori and SusanStitchuary was born after visiting the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival in 2008. Never before had we seen so many amazing yarns and met so many warm and interesting people who produced them. We wanted to buy it all, but of course we couldn’t. When we got home we found these wools weren’t available in our local yarn shop. That’s how Stitchuary was born. We not only wanted to have the opportunity to buy yarn from local farms, but also wanted to support independent artisans’ and farmers.

Stitchuary a combination of STITCH (the art of moving yarn in the process of knitting) and SANCTUARY (a place of comfort) is a one of a kind online knitting store and community source for small independent farmers to sell their products to consumers. We specialize in bringing knitters’ limited edition, high quality artisan yarns directly from the farmers that create them.

Stitchuary offers a wide range of renewable natural fibers from animals and plants that have been transformed into yarn. Natural fibers are classified as plants or animals. Plant fibers include cotton, linen, hemp or sisal. Animal fibers are wool from sheep, alpaca, goats or other animals such as bison. Silk is the fiber of the silkworm.

We’ve compiled the characteristics of each animal in our YARN RESOURCES.
